At Pinewoodesigns, all our product is made from #1 Kiln dried pine, Custom milled to match Century old dimensions(approximately 1/18" thick; not nominal 1"stock which is only 3/4" actual thickness.) Selecting the best cut of wood, product is hand templated using actual "Century Designs" taken from old photographs, archive drawings, or actual existing pieces. Our master craftsmen individually hand cut our gingerbread pieces to precise tolerences. (Stacking pieces together will reveal less than a 1/32"difference between pieces.)
All our product is spray finished .We use oil based (alkyd) primer, sprayed prior to any assembly, to provide a weather resistant seal leaving no exposed wood for moisture penetration. Should our customer want the product finished, Pinewood spray finishes it's product using Exterior grade Acrylic Latex paint. Custom colours can be sprayed at no extra charge, provided the customer gives us a colour sample or colour chip and code #. This will ensure the customer will get the colour they want. This spray finishing technique optimizes the life of the paint surface. Based on our 20 years experience in this business, our finish will conservatively last between 9 and 12 years .(Some projects have lasted up to 16 years before refinishing was necessary!)
Our gingerbread is installed using a"backerboard"system and corrosion resistant deck screws, which is easily installed and can be taken down just as easily (when repainting is necesseary).
All our gingerbread is sized to proportionately fit it's application. In the case where there are two different sized gables, (on the same house), that is using the same design, Pinewoodesigns, with its knowledgeable designers will automatically re-proportion the sizing of the profiles, so that both gables will appear correct to the house, giving the gingerbread a truely customized look. All this at no extra charge to the home owner, desite the extra redesign time and labour incured to do this.
Upper gable Gingerbread is custom designed to fit YOUR HOME with an accuracy of 1/4" tolerence in overall length. Discrepencies in gable length from one side of the gable to the other, (this occurrs quite often, sometimes the difference can be as much as 2") are made up over the entire length of the gable, so that the differences will not be seen by the naked eye. If this were not done and standard gingerbread profiles were used,( ie. Plastic or other generic pieces) the discrepency would become obvious at the ends of the gable and the fit would not be precise,thereby compromizing the aesthetics of the gingerbread.
